The trip from Gordon’s Bay to Rooi Els on Clarence Drive (R44) is my favourite driving road in South Africa. Winding along the False Bay coastline it offers stunning views as well as making for an interesting drive.
Starting out at Gordon’s Bay the first stop is the Steenbras Dam Water Treatment Plant, Turn off a Five Houses, a few kilometers outside Gordon’s Bay you make the sharp climb up the mountain to the plant’s visitors parking for stunning views of False Bay and the Helderberg Basin.
